The cycle of the right atrium and ventricle of the human heart

Diastole

Systole

  Phase of
relaxation
  • contraction of the atrium and relaxation of the ventricle

  • contraction of the ven-
tricle and relaxation of the atrium

  • relaxation of the whole
    heart muscle
  • increasing blood pressure opens the cuspid valves

  • increasing blood pressure
    closes the cusid valves
    and opens the pocket
    valves

  • cuspid and pocket valves
    are closed
  • blood is pressed into ventricle

  • blood is squeezed into
    the pulmonary artery

  • blood flows from the
    vena cava superior and
    inferior into the the atrium
    on account of the low
    blood pressure

Systole
= contraction of the muscular tissue of the heart
